Animal Microbiomes Working Group News
On 24 July, Claire Rogel-Gaillard — Deputy Scientific Director at INRAE and Chair of Alliance Animal Microbiomes Working Group — presented a talk and poster on the role of animal holobionts in agroecology at the 40th International Society for Animal Genetics Conference in Korea.
She emphasized the importance of viewing livestock and their microbiomes as a single functional unit, pointing to their potential as underutilized genetic resources for enhancing biodiversity, resilience, and health in sustainable farming systems.
Her presentations entitled “Microbiomes and Holobionts as Genetic Resources for Agroecology” highlighted the complex interactions between livestock, microbes, plants and the environment — and the need for a systems-level approach that integrates One Health strategies in agriculture.
