The Alliance at the EAAP meeting
Claire Rogel-Gaillard — Deputy Scientific Director at INRAE and Chair of Alliance Animal Microbiomes Working Group — participated in the 76th EAAP (European Federation of Animal Science) Meeting in Innsbruck, Austria (25-29 August).
On behalf of the Alliance’s Animal Microbiomes Working Group, she presented a poster entitled “Healthy plants make healthy animals: Applying the One Health concept to livestock holobionts”, exploring how a One Health perspective can transform livestock breeding and farming.
The presentation highlighted key research questions:
- What shapes livestock microbiomes?
- How do plant and environmental microbiomes affect animals?
- How do we define and assess holobiont genetic diversity?
- How can we assess, secure and store livestock holobiont diversity?
- How can this knowledge transform farming?
The Animal Microbiomes Working Group focuses on:
🌱 Exploring connections between plant, animal, soil, and environmental microbiomes
🧬 Investigating holobiont genetic diversity
🐄 Developing strategies to improve animal health and resilience through microbiome science
